Comfort Food at Rod and Ben’s

‘Comfort food’ is trending right now. It’s that time of year when people are craving a bit of cosy, now the leaves  – and the rain – are falling. The nights are drawing in and the temperatures are dropping.  Comfort food to me is a bit of nostalgia, something sentimental perhaps that my mum made for me, or a small treat. For many it’s chocolate or ice cream, but I’m thinking shepherd’s pie, beans on toast, scrambled egg or a bowl of warming soup - and to lighten the carbs maybe a hot chocolate.  This Autumn and Winter will be no different. We are turning to our comfort foods and looking for something moreish which brings that feeling of warmth,...

Plastic Free July

Looking into the pots... For starters let’s have some horribly shocking statistics: Today we create 300 million tonnes of plastic; which is roughly the weight of the entire human population. Only 9% was recycled*. The UK generate more plastic waste per person than any other country bar the US** We dump our waste on other countries who do not have robust recycling capability. *    Our World in Data  **  from the UNEP If you haven’t watched the shocking Greenpeace video of dumping rubbish at Downing Street you should - it’s heart-breaking and fascinating at the same time. The army appears to be the only ones who make wet weather clothing strong enough for this environment. Howling winds, rain and cold - below ten degrees - battered the farm in the month of May, when really the weather...

Still knee deep in veg! See how our story grew.

We've got a fresh new website to reflect our passion for organic seasonal foods and to celebrate our humble beginnings. It’s been an interesting 2020 and 2021 to say the least!  As a small organic food business, we’ve had to review and respond to the changing needs of our customers and our community. To showcase these changes we’ve built a fresh new website to reflect our brand, tell our story, celebrate our values and showcase our products, still with the core values of Honest, Tasty and Proudly Organic, which continues to be our daily mantra. Our website showcases our story and our values. Rod knee deep in veg on his organic farm, whipping up some homemade soup, which he duly took...
